Vampire Weekend - Taxi Cab

I followed my first woman through labour and delivery yesterday (one of the most disgustingly amazing experiences I’ve had) and came across a clutch music moment that will have me packing an iPod and speakers into my future labour and delivery suitcase.

The whole thing obviously involves a ton of crazy noise near the end, mom pushing and screaming…fetal heart rate monitor wooshing away at 150 bpm…midwife encouraging the mom…machine buzzes…doctors all wondering if intervention will be necessary…generally, a high energy environment.  The mom was having all kinds of pains and pushing for over an hour and a half and then, over a period of 2 minutes, pop, a baby comes out.  The mom was dazed and in shock and after a long pause, the baby lets out a huge cry and the mom totally exploded into tears of relief and the noise in the room continues on.  But within the next five minutes everything changed. It went from this room with the most disgustingly primal noises to a room of surreal calmness with everyone standing around staring, in awe of this brand new baby.

In that surreal moment, I want something like this playing.
